Jenny Y.

I’m Jenny. I am 39 years old, have been married for 14 years to my husband Lohn, and am a stay-at-home mom to a 9 year old girl named Freya. Freya had a difficult start to her life. She was born with a severe diaphragmatic hernia where she was missing 50% of her diaphragm and all her belly organs were in her chest compressing her heart and lungs. She almost didn’t make it several times but finally stabilized enough to have surgery. She has now had surgery 3 different times to repair it. The first two years of her life were very traumatic. At age 5 she was diagnosed with Autism and Mixed Receptive/Expressive Language Disorder. Two years later she was diagnosed with ADHD, Auditory Processing Delay, Dyslexia, and Dyscalculia. While school continues to be difficult for her to navigate, she has made the most amazing progress over the years and is currently in a GenEd setting with assistance from a Para. We are so proud of how far she has come!

Freya and I became friends with a few girls from her special needs dance class and their moms, and one of those moms is how I first heard about Kindred. She told me about the group and invited me to the Facebook group and encouraged me and another mom to come to the next event. We both went to the event and have been to almost every one since! The events are always put together so well, organized, cute, and welcoming. You can tell that Brittany and Taylor pour their hearts into these events!

Kindred has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best ways. I’m pretty shy and uncomfortable in situations that are new and where I don’t know many people, but it has encouraged me to push past that in order to talk to other women who just “get it”. Everyone I have interacted with at these events has been so kind. I just remind myself that we are all there for the same exact reason – to be surrounded by other women who can relate and understand and to hopefully connect with a few of them to make a new friend!
