Megan J.
Hi, I’m Megan. I’ve been married to my husband, Travis, for 16 years and we have two daughters, ages 14 and 8.
Our youngest has multiple anaphylactic food allergies, eczema/asthma, and eosinophilic esophagitis, and our oldest was later diagnosed with ADD. Even with a lot of support, the day-to-day care of a medically complex child can sometimes feel isolating, especially when many of her needs aren’t visible.
Walking through this season has really opened my eyes and heart to other moms navigating similar challenges, and I’ve longed to connect with women who understand the emotions and juggling that comes with parenting kids with medical or special needs.
After seeing a post from Brittany Martin in the Harvester Women’s Facebook group, I reached out to her. Her warmth and encouragement helped me take the step to attend a dinner event. Being able to share with other moms and take a moment to refocus and connect was so refreshing. The other moms are amazing, strong, and beautiful people.
Over time I began attending more events and inviting other moms too. One of the greatest things I’ve gained is a deeper compassion and awareness of the experiences of other moms, and a desire to support them well. Recently I’ve also been learning more about how churches can better welcome and support families of children with medical and special needs and how I can support that. I’m so grateful to Kindred for helping open my heart to that.
